About me

"Throughout the course of my life, I have wanted to be many things: an artist, a designer, an entrepreneur, a mother. With my children's clothing line, I found the perfect way to blend all these things into a creative and rewarding career. Born in London, one of three sisters, I spent my early years in Hong Kong. At the age of nine, I went off to Le Rosey, a Swiss boarding school, followed by Ecole Active Bilingue in Paris. But no matter where I was, I always found a great passion and aptitude for art and design. This led me to New York City, where I studied both fields, at New York Academy of Arts and New York University. Whilst in New Orleans, l met Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece. We fell in love & were married in 1995 in the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Sophia in London. One year later I became pregnant with my first child, Maria-Olympia who was born in New York, followed by Constantine Alexios (1998), Achileas-Andreas (2000), and Odysseas Kimon (2004). In June 2008 we welcomed another new addition to our lives, a beautiful baby boy named Aristide."

About me cont.

"Starting the children's collection in the year 2000 sprang naturally from my love of classic, timeless design, and the fundamental love of children. My memories of my own childhood and my mother's influence on me are vivid. My mother always brought us up to look our best. We were dressed in very specific outfits, like Liberty-print smocked dresses made of lightweight lawn cotton. My favorite time of year was the summer, mostly because my sisters & I could wear free, happy, and comfortable outfits, the very elements I wanted to bring to today's generation of children's clothing. The beauty and innocence of childhood are so important, & I think children should look like children. Having five children of my own to raise, care for & nurture has been a tremendous joy & blessing. They are a constant source of inspiration to me. There are many exciting things happening in the next few years and I hope you will enjoy the journey as much as I will. With Love, Marie-Chantal "

How it all began...2000-2002

"It all began in 2000. We opened our first showroom on Madison Avenue in New York and set to work on creating our debut collection for Summer 2002. Alongside this we launched www.mariechantal.com. An informational site only for now, but I always knew I would have a beautiful e-commerce site somewhere down the line. It was during this time that myself and my family moved to London, with me busy planning the opening of my very first store in Chelsea!"

2003-2005

"In September 2003 I opened my first store on Walton Street in Chelsea. What a sense of achievement! I immediately set out plans to open more with New York being my next location. Our collections were being well received by our clients and at this stage our London design studio was a tiny space at the back of the store! We moved our NY showroom to a larger space in 2004 and shortly after we were able to launch our first e-commerce website, mariechantal.com. It was such a beautiful site and it was exciting to know that we now had the scope to reach out to more new customers. We attended our first trade show in Florence with the collection in 2005 which was a great success, gaining us exposure and a whole host of new clients too. Finally in August 2005 I opened my 2nd store on NY's famous Madison Avenue already thinking ahead to the next location!"

2006-2008...

"2006 proved to be another busy year for the brand. We opened 2 new franchise stores in Greece. One in Athens and one in Thessaloniki. We had a fantastic launch party in Athens with huge crowds lining the street! In 2007 we had another store opening in Southampton, NY. A great weekend destination for New Yorkers wanting to escape the hustle & bustle of city life. 2008 really was an eventful year. For the most part my family and I were in LA. I gave birth to my fifth child, a beautiful baby boy in June. I returned to London in the summer & in September we opened our beautiful flagship store on London's Sloane Street. Our biggest store to date! We had a fantastic opening party with the wonderful Emma Thompson reading the children stories, and magicians and ballerinas entertaining the other guests. Shortly after the event we launched our new website. A fully functional e-commerce site that sells the collection internationally. Alot of hard work went into getting the site ready but we still managed to open another flagship store on Beverly Drive in December. What a way to end an amazing couple of years! "
